We’re partnering with a leading UK financial services organisation as they look to bring in a Principal Android Engineer who will help shape the next generation of their mobile customer experience. This is a chance to join a respected institution undergoing a major digital modernisation—playing a senior role in driving engineering excellence and delivering secure, high-performing mobile applications used at national scale.

The Opportunity

In this position, you’ll take the lead on designing and building software that puts user experience front and centre. You’ll steer complex engineering initiatives, define core architectural patterns, and provide technical direction to multiple feature teams—ensuring their delivery aligns with wider technology and business goals.

You’ll work closely with architects, senior engineers, and product leaders to develop innovative, dependable, and scalable mobile capabilities, while influencing the ongoing evolution of the organisation’s tech ecosystem.

What you will do ...

  • Shaping and overseeing engineering and architectural solutions with a focus on automation, resilience, scalability, performance, and security

  • Designing and developing sophisticated Android software, tools, and frameworks within a feature or platform team

  • Producing architectural models, technical roadmaps, and long-term designs aligned to business strategy

  • Setting engineering standards, championing best practices, and guiding strategic technology choices across teams and domains

What I need from you ...

You’ll have deep experience in Android development, software architecture, and modern engineering practices, ideally gained within large-scale or regulated environments. A strong background working in Agile and DevOps-focused teams is essential, along with a passion for improving engineering culture and technical delivery. As well as ....

  • Extensive Android development experience using Kotlin, Java, and modern frameworks such as Jetpack Compose

  • Strong grounding in TDD, automated testing, mocking/stubbing, and performance engineering

  • Experience influencing or leading engineering teams within matrixed or cross-functional environments

  • The ability to convert complex business challenges into robust, scalable technical solutions

  • Good familiarity with Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and contemporary development practices
